Family Valentines

Tuesday Feb 14, 2012.

Tuesday is a slightly hectic night in our house - not a bad as Thursday but not great. S. has karate from 6:15 -7PM and she and D. don't get home until about 7:15 or 7:20. I have dance class at 8.  What this means is that I have to pick up P., and cook at dinner that 1) I can cook when it is just the 2 of us and 2) I feel like eating with just the 2 of us.  We are usually almost done when D.and S. get home and then they eat the same thing. I sit and talk to them for a few minutes before getting changed and leaving for class.  Not awful - but seriously what kind of plan is that for Valentine's day?

So tonight, we decided that family is more important than karate.  S. skipped and we went out for dinner because that sounded so much better for Valentine's day. And it was.

It's the easiest.

S. gets a packet of homework for reading every week.  It is the same every week: 1) write 4-5 vocabulary words 3 times each; 2) Write a sentence with each vocabulary word; 3) answer 5 or 6 questions about the assigned story; 4) 6-8 worksheets that reinforce the vocabulary words and other concepts being taught in class.  S. always does the worksheets first, because "they are the easiest".  This is one of the things I love about this kid.  Clearly, they are not the easiest part of the assignment, but they are the most interesting.  So they are the easiest for her to get done.

Also, you  would not believe how long it takes her to write the vocabulary words (write a word, complain, get distracted, "S. write your words", write a word, go to the bathroom, "S. finish in the bathroom and come finish your homework", write a word, get distracted, "S. write your words, you would be done by now if you would just do it"; write a word, get a new pencil, complain, write a word)

Happy New Years!

Here we are 1/1/11 and I've decided to give blogging a try in 2011.

S. resolved to try and keep the house neater in 2011.  Not sure this one will last too long.

I have 2 resolutions:
1) Try and get the house more organized and more unpacked.  We moved into this house in Aug 2008.  We still have unpacked boxes in the study, the basement and the closets.  We could probably just throw them all away - since clearly they contain nothing that has been important enough to unpack in 2.5 years. But I'm resolving to go through them.

2) Try to relax more at home after work. I tend to be very task focused.  This is not very much fun.

We'll see how I do.
